Target Beneficiaries: Approximately 1,500 residents from three villages in the East Champaran district, Bihar, with a focus on high-risk groups such as children and the elderly.

Project Cost: INR 1,00,000

Project Objective: To address the prevalent issue of digestive and gastrointestinal disorders in underserved rural communities by establishing a mobile gastroenterology clinic. This initiative will provide medical consultations, diagnostic support for common digestive issues, and educational sessions on sanitation and hygiene practices.


2. Introduction


Gastrointestinal diseases are a major health concern in rural India, often caused by poor sanitation, contaminated water, and a lack of access to specialized medical care. The absence of local clinics and qualified specialists forces villagers to travel long distances for treatment, which is often unaffordable. This project aims to bring specialized care directly to the doorstep of the community, offering a lifeline to those in need and promoting a healthier lifestyle.


3. Problem Statement


The rural areas of East Champaran lack dedicated healthcare facilities for gastrointestinal issues. As a result, conditions such as gastritis, dysentery, parasitic infections, and dehydration go untreated or are misdiagnosed, leading to chronic health problems and sometimes life-threatening complications. There is a critical need for an accessible and specialized healthcare service to combat these issues.


4. Project Goals and Objectives


  • Goal: To improve the digestive and overall health of rural communities in East Champaran.

  • Objective 1: To conduct at least three specialized medical camps focusing on gastroenterology over a three-month period.

  • Objective 2: To provide free consultations and initial treatment for common digestive ailments to a minimum of 1,500 people.

  • Objective 3: To perform basic on-site diagnostic tests (e.g., stool analysis for parasites, blood tests for infections).

  • Objective 4: To organize targeted health education sessions on hygiene, sanitation, and dietary practices that can prevent gastrointestinal diseases.

  • Objective 5: To identify and refer cases requiring advanced treatment to specialized hospitals, with assistance for follow-up care.

Phase 1 (Month 1): Planning and Mobilization

  • Team Formation: Assemble a team including a gastroenterologist, a nurse, and local health volunteers.

  • Partnership Building: Collaborate with local authorities and community leaders to finalize camp locations and schedules.

  • Logistics: Arrange for a vehicle to serve as a mobile clinic and transport equipment.
